Every minute, 500 hours of video are uploaded onto YouTube. Although breaking into this market may seem daunting, YouTube is an invaluable tool for growing any business’ brand exposure.

With the new ‘shorts’ format, YouTube can compete with the likes of Instagram and TikTok – exposing your brand to thousands of new potential customers.

There are also tools – like free online YouTube thumbnail maker: design your own – to make it easy to promote your business with your YouTube channel. Here’s everything you need to get started.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Starting with the Basics
  • 2. Solidify Your Web Presence
  • 3. Work on Your Voice and Channel Branding
  • 4. Write Your ‘About’ Section
  • 5. Add Your Aesthetics
  • 6. Research Your Market and Content-Type
  • 7. Start Making Videos

1. Starting with the Basics

The first step you’ll need to follow is creating your business YouTube channel. Creating a YouTube account is easy – you’ll be done in just a few clicks.

Once you’ve signed in, click on the user icon. It should be at the top right side of your screen. Then, click the settings icon – it looks like a gear. Click ‘create a new channel,’ choose your channel’s name, and click ‘create.’

2. Solidify Your Web Presence

Once you’ve set your channel up, you’ll want to link it to your website and other social media accounts. Having a web presence is vital to ensure that you can direct viewers to your business pages.

You should already have a website. Consider revamping it to match your new YouTube channel to create a cohesive brand.

3. Work on Your Voice and Channel Branding

To keep users coming back to your YouTube channel, you should have a clearly-defined and consistent vision for your content.

Think about what story you want your channel to tell – or if you find it challenging to come up with a story, consider how you can appeal to your niche. Think about how you can deliver a unique message to your viewers that is also relevant to your branding.

For instance, you could decide on a playful brand voice and customize your channel’s name, icon banner, and trailer to align with your message, branding, and story.

4. Write Your ‘About’ Section

Once you’ve created your brand presence, you’ll want to think about how to attract visitors to your site and bring awareness to your brand. The first thing you’ll see after creating your channel is an option to write your profile and channel description – this is where you can tell viewers about your brand and what content you’ll be creating on your channel.

The profile and channel description are also excellent places to add links to your website and social media accounts. When writing your descriptions, consider your words carefully. Your descriptions will appear in more than one place on your YouTube channel, so take full advantage of them.

The description for your channel could be a straightforward sentence describing what you do or a lengthier paragraph that includes your mission. Add a call-to-action (CTA) at the end that directs viewers to click through to your website – like “visit my website.”

5. Add Your Aesthetics

Viewers who visit your YouTube channel will immediately be greeted by your cover photo. This large banner displays your brand name. Although you can make this picture as simple or as complex as you’d like, be sure to make use of this feature so that viewers can immediately identify your brand.

YouTube recommends using cover photos smaller than 43MB and 2560 x 1440 pixels. You should also use this space to add your brand’s logo.

6. Research Your Market and Content-Type

As you’ll be creating a YouTube channel for your business, you should know what kind of content is relevant to your brand. If your product is complex and requires construction or setting up, you can create explainers, tutorials, and how-to videos to provide more information for your customers.

If you want to showcase your excellent feedback from happy customers, you could create video testimonials. Creating different types of relevant content is recommended because some videos may resonate with some people more than others.

Above all else, you should create content that appeals to your target demographic. This powerful inbound marketing technique cements customer loyalty to your brand.

You could create videos that address your customers’ questions, unique interests, and pain points. Remember, the more you cater to your target audience, the more inclined they will be to use your products and services.

7. Start Making Videos

You’ll need some essential equipment to start making videos for your YouTube channel. Expert YouTubers recommend using a camera with a tripod, microphone, a light ring, and video editing software. Search for deals on equipment online – it’s also perfectly acceptable to start with just a smartphone.

Now that you’ve set up your YouTube channel, create a trailer for it. This can be short and sweet – start by introducing yourself and telling your viewers what your channel and brand are about. Once you’ve created your trailer, you can upload your first video.

When you’ve finished filming and editing, you can upload your video by clicking on the ‘upload’ option in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully created your YouTube channel and uploaded your first video!
