Feng Shui is a 5000-year-old Chineses art and science, it is based on the idea that the energy of the universe, known as QI, is tied to the harmony in your life. In other words, the characteristics of where you live, work and spend recreational time, play an integral role in your personal qi, therefore impacting health, relationships, success, and contentment. By practicing the art of Feng Shui, you reinforce positive energy, creating a balanced life and welcoming home.

Feng Shui suggests removing and rearranging furniture to promote energy and healing. This could mean the placement of furniture, plants, wall decorations, as well as other objects. The recommendations are based on a Bagua, an energy map, this shows how areas in your home and the design of your space are linked to parts of your life, such as spirituality, creativity, wealth or career.

Start with decluttering and removing any unnecessary items. Objects tend to accumulate over time and often crowd areas in your home. Look at storage, understand what you need and what makes you happy.

Main Elements of Five Element Theory

Feng shui is based on the Five Element Theory, each element bust be represented and balanced in your space to maintain optimal energy.

1.Fire

Fire represents passion. It can be expressed through warm colours, burning candles around the home, bringing in light and warmth. This is also displayed with angular shapes, look at your furniture and think square, bold and sharp.

2.Water

Water represents wealth and career and is represented by the colour blue. It can be demonstrated through the use of glass, crystals, mirrors and moving water. Think about installing an indoor fountain from Soothing Company, the sound of moving water trickling can instantly make you feel calm.

3. Wood

Wood represents motivation, inspiration and creativity, represented by the colour pallets green, brown and purple. We often see this demonstrated by wooden furniture choices, as well as an abundance of plants. In feng shui, plants embody life energy, plants connect us to nature, bringing vibrancy into our homes.

4. Earth

Earth represents stability. Think materials that come from the earth, stone and clay paired with earthy colours splashed in throughout the home, such as yellow, browns and oranges, that represent mother nature.

5. Metal

Metal represents energy attraction. Metal is the easiest to incorporate as structurally the house is made up of many metal things, from lamps, pictures, stovetops, mixing metal mediums. It represents the circular shapes and tends to use the colours white and grey.

Once you have incorporated the five elements into your home, you need to assess one of the most important principles in Feng Shui. This is the commanding position, the commanding position has a significant impact on our lives, our health and overall wellbeing.

Conclusion

This is often referred to as the power position, so it is important to look at the position of your bed, desk, kitchen and sofa. You want to always be able to see the door, but not be directly in line with it. When you are in a commanding position, you are in visual control, enabling you to take control and be prosperous.
